| Grainger was signed just before the 1995/96 transfer deadline day from Brentford in a deal worth £400,000. He started his career as an apprentice at Colchester United and in 1992 he helped the U's make an immediate return to the Football League as they clinched the GM Vauxhall Conference championship at the first attempt. He moved to Griffin Park in October 1993 and made his name as a tough-tackling defender. Martin is a left-sided player who has played in the wing-back role as well as in the conventional back four. Free-kick specialist who got on the score sheet with two such strikes against Barnsley and Oldham within four days of each other last season. Proved himself to be a very reliable member of Trevor Francis' squad last season and showed his versatility on a number of occasions. Whole hearted player who is just desperate to play for Birmingham City FC. |
