Signed by Trevor Francis in February 1999, a transfer that reunited the pair after Francis had been Hyde's manager at Sheffield Wednesday, where he had spent all his career. Graham came through the youth team at Hillsborough to reach the first eleven and was handed his chance by Ron Atkinson, but began to make a more regular impact after Carlton Palmer left for Leeds. Industrious and honest in the extreme, Hyde is the living definition of the midfield terrier Graham missed the latter half of the 1996/97 season after a serious ankle injury when playing against Wimbledon in the FA Cup. The arrival of Petter Rudi and Jim Magilton along with the form of Wayne Collins had made Hyde's task of re-establishing himself in the starting line-up a tough looking prospect, having missed the early part of the 97/98 season through injury, before his return, as a substitute, in the 5-0 thrashing of Bolton, that followed David Pleat's sacking. Ron Atkinson had different ideas and Graham became a regular starter in the Owls line-up before disciplinary problem in the latter half of the season saw him unsure of a place in the team. Made only one substitute appearance this season for Wednesday and turned down an approach from Port Vale before Christmas when it became clear his future lied elsewhere. Signed for Blues on February 4 - four days after Chris Marsden left Blues to join Southampton. Missed the first leg of the play-offs against Watford with food poisoning.
