| Blues boss Trevor Francis swooped for
Holdsworth two days before the 1998/99 transfer deadline as a replacement for injured
skipper Gary Ablett, paying Sheffield United a bargain £1.2 million. Twin brother of
Bolton striker Dean, David joined Sheffield United from Watford for £500,000 in 1996 and
in his two years at Bramall Lane rapidly established himself as the steely spine of the
Blades' side. A calm and assured defender he makes very few mistakes and is showing the
style which won him England U21 honours alongside twin-brother Dean. Rated by Francis as
one of the best defenders outside the Premiership David added leadership and character to
the Birmingham City squad during the run in last season. Was unlucky to be sent off against Watford in the second leg of the play off at St Andrews. Is also the club vice captain. |
