Signed on a Bosman free from Sheffield Wednesday following a successful trial spell with the Blues. Sonner got his big break in the Premiership when Wednesday plucked him from Ipswich Town reserves in October '98 for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of Ł75,000. After a brief spell in Germany, Sonner returned to England to join Ipswich in 1996, but struggled to hold down a regular place at Portman Road. A combative, tenacious midfielder, Sonner is prepared to put his foot in where it hurts and is an excellent passer of the ball. Sonner is entitled to play for Northern Ireland because his grandfather was born within the province.
