| Powerful hit man who also possesses a
surprisingly neat touch - a by-product of his grounding under Dario Gradi at Crewe
Alexandra. Adebola may favour his left side to a large extent but he is a handful for any
defence with his pace and direct style and he is already becoming a firm favourite with
the St. Andrews faithful scoring on his full debut against his old side Crewe. Recovered from injury to help fire Crewe into Division One via the play-offs last season but they reluctantly let him join Birmingham for £1 million after earlier interest from West Ham United because he was out of contract at the end of the season. Snubbed two advances from Northern Ireland, to pursue an international career with his native Nigeria, even though he was not selected for their World Cup squad. Called Dele by his friends who as you can imagine are plentiful at 63. After scoring in Blues first five games of the 98-99 season, Dele has been hit by a series of niggling injuries which has meant him not firing on all cylinders. He returned to both full fitness and form before Easter 1999 only to be hit by injury again - a hamstring tear that nearly ended his season. However, he fought back to fitness and scored the winner that wasn't enough against Watford in the second leg of the play-offs at St Andrews. |
